- 2/10/08 Film and stuff...
Well, that was a very busy summer...gigs all over Europe again and lots of filming...
Rick's got Scarlett's project out on the road. SCARLETT FEEVA, as they are now called have started gigging...and they sound amazing. We're not sure how it's going to work out between Sonic-Hub Records and the band yet...the project may end up signing elsewhere. We'll let you know...
SHOOT THE DJ is still in production. We've had to take it a bit slow as Dan has been on tour with PENDULUM all year..he's in the USA right now with them. There's a few little re-shoots and then we're done with the shooting. The edit isn't far from being done now too...we've just got the dub, the foley and the audio mix to go now...not to mention the colour grade...blah blah blah...it's just so involved making movies... still, you live and learn.
Sonic Hub...the band is working on new material for the Shoot The DJ soundtrack...more news to follow soon.
That's all for now. Check out
www.myspace.com/shootthedjfilmIt's been another busy month. Scarlett has been in the studio with her new band recording live drums and guitars on her debut album. The album from SCARLETT AND THE FEEVA is coming soon....
We've been planning the next shoot for 'Shoot The DJ'. There's also some exciting news on the cards...another celeb cast member...we'll reveal more soon.
Dan's been on tour with Pedulum looking after Kodish's drums and keeping the monitors happening...Rick's been totally engrossed in recording Scarlett's album and Sean's been busy working on the film and also writing new Sonic Hub material. He's also been live mixing for Zarif...a new artist signed to RCA-Sony. Check out www.myspace.com/zarifmusic to hear it.
Sean's also been re-working his Psyco-Central website...check it out:
www.psyco-central.comMore news coming soon....
- 2/4/08 New SHOOT THE DJ Video Blog on our film myspace site
In case you didn't know, we're producing a series of Video Blogs detailing the making of our first feature film, SHOOT THE DJ.
The second of these Video Blogs is now online. Click
HERE to see it.
Seems like i might have overdone it on the espresso before the last news post... Anyway, if you haven't done so already. can you head over to
www.myspace.com/shootthedjfilm and comment on the trailers or comment on the video blog. We'd love to get a dialogue happening between you and us and try to get more input on what we cover in the next video blog. Tell your friends, your work colleagues...spread the word!
While you're in myspace land...head over to
www.myspace.com/sonichubuk and tell us which of the tracks on EYE OF THE STORM is your favourite and why. We're working on new material now and it'd be really interesting to know..
Something is definately in the air at the moment..there's a sudden surge of CD sales of the Sonic Hub album mostly coming from the US. Whatever's causing it....we like it.
I just watched the 'Album Chart Show'.....Christ..what is happening to music in Britain? There was some bloke called David Jordan or something??? He looked and sounded like Michael Jackson from the early 80's only not as good...then the next band (Futureheads?? - The Misnomers more like..) sounded like a really bad version of the Clash... Are we in the middle of one big Karaoke session? It's like X-Factor got melded with Stars in Their Eyes..and the result is the current charts. Gives me the hump.... it's not the business i want to be a part of..........progress anyone?
On a more positive note... The movie is coming on great. We completed another week's filming last week... it was good fun and we got some really important shots done. There's about another week's filming...maybe a tad more to go. The edit is really coming together now.. Still aiming for August sorta time for a first screening to all involved.
Gutted that www.stage6.com closed down last week. It was the best hosting site for quality video and we'll miss it. We're looking for a replacement site to host our film related stuff.
Big thanks to the fans in the USA who are still buying Sonic Hub albums and hitting the myspace... it's not gone un-noticed and we'll knuckle down and get some new tunes happening for release over there later in the year... stick with us.. the new material will be worth the wait.
That's all for now...
- 16/12/07 Merry Christmas and all that....
It's that time again... The silly season is here and we're busier than ever. We know it must seem as if we've been really quiet this last year, but it's all been going on behind the scenes so to speak. Some things we said were coming soon never materialized and we thought we'd better let you all know what's going on..
So...
Loop Storm did record some new material, but we're saving it for the 'Shoot The DJ' movie soundtrack.
Scarlett's material really is coming soon... she's in the studio right now and it's sounding amazing...
Sonic Hub are going to be recording some new tracks for the '
Shoot The DJ' soundtrack.
The Long Firm are working on debut tracks as we speak...again for the movie soundtrack, but possibly also some pre-movie releases too...
Deeks is always busy.... expect some solo work to come in 2008.
Obviously, the biggest drain on our resources and time has been the movie '
Shoot The DJ'. It's coming along really well and we still hope to have it done by summer 2008.
So there it is.... we're not lazy after all.
Apparently, some bloke called Leon just won The X-Factor. He looks like David Sneddon... remember him? Stop ruining the Christmas number one Simon.
Rant over.
Have a great Christmas and New year... See you in 2008.
- 22/11/07 Back in the UK...
So we're back from the Kim Wilde tour of Germany, Holland and Austria... what a laugh that was. Highlights include - Rick getting blasted in champagne on his birthday - a chilled day off in Amsterdam with Stevie P, Daz, Tom, Dan and myself - Daz fracturing my chestbone and us totally rocking most of Europe with a tight-as-a-ducks ass show.... Kim is on top form and the band were just awesome as usual.
We're just about back to normal now...
So what's up for us in Nov/Dec?
Back to editing the movie... and shooting the last of the scenes...
And...some new material for Sonic Hub maybe???
- 22/10/07 Trailer number 1 done...
The first trailer for SHOOT THE DJ is up on the films page now. You can also see it on YOUTUBE and also on the film's myspace page:
www.myspace.com/shootthedjukLeave us some feedback on YOUTUBE or on Myspace and let us know what you think so far...all feedback is much appreciated.
We're off on the Kim Wilde Tour in a week's time... maybe see some of you there.
- 17/10/07 Teaser Trailer in production...
With the filming over for now...(apart from all the re-shoots and some bits we're shooting on tour) we've got straight on the case with a trailer to show everyone what's coming. It should be ready in about a week. We'll let you know as soon as we post it online.
- 13/10/07 Principal photography in full swing (we're shooting the film)
We're almost done with the first stint of filming... it's been 3 weeks and we're all knackered. We're hugely in debt to all the people that have helped out over the last few weeks... Annelise, Lawrence, Dan Balaam, Richard and loads more. All the cast have been great too. Having seen the rushes of various scenes, we know this is gonna work... it's costing a fortune and taking over our lives at the moment, but hopefully it'll all be worth it.
- 28/8/07 New album in production... Shoot The DJ
As you may have heard, we have begun pre-production on our first feature film, 'Shoot The DJ'. We start shooting at the end of September. The soundtrack is going to be entirely made up of Sonic-Hub Records artists. Not all of which you will have heard from before... Sonic Hub, Deeks, The Long Firm, Loop Storm and other new acts are all contributing to the soundtrack and we're going to be releasing this as an album before the release of the movie. (Backwards, we know, but we hate rules and if we wanna put the soundtrack album out first, we will...so there)
While we're here, you might have noticed that both the Sonic Hub page and the Loop Storm page now have Tunetribe mp3 players which let you purchase the tracks directly... just another avenue for you to purchase Sonic-Hub Records music without leaving your chair. How thoughtful are we?
So...we've not been sitting around doing nothing...it just seems like it. Putting this movie together has been one hell of a job....not too mention trying to simultaneously put together a soundtrack album. It'll all make sense in the end, we promise. :-)
- 15/8/07 Tony Wilson dies of cancer.... a crap day for music
Tony Wilson, the genious behind Factory Records died on Friday night at the age of 57. He started something in Manchester that changed the city and shape of the indie music scene forever. Working with bands such as Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio and many others, he did things his way and lived for the music, never for the money. The music industry is a duller place without him. Rest in peace Tony...or at least somewhere as kickin' as the Hacienda..Fac51 ;-)
- 3/7/07 MP3 Players working again....
The MP3 players on the site are now working again... bit of grief with the hosting site...all sorted now.
While we're here... some brief news for you.
Deeks and Sean from Sonic Hub have teamed up to work on a new project called 'The Long Firm'.... MP3's to follow soon...
In a departure from our usual area of work, we've started a new venture...'Sonic-Hub Films'. Our first feature is in pre-production now and we'll be back with more details soon....
- 28/5/07 New MP3 download page coming soon....
Some of you have been telling us that you'd like to buy your downloads directly from us... apparently, joining iTunes or TuneTribe and similar sites is often a bit tricky, especially if you haven't got a credit card. So... we'll look at setting this up in the coming weeks. Combined with our SMS-Paypal mobile payment option, it completely does away with having to have a credit card to buy our music online... cool huh? Always thinking of you.... :-)
If you head over to the 'Freestuff' page.... you can download free ringtones...or 'realtones' as they are called. Basically 30 second mp3 files of our artists music ideal for your mobile ringtone. All you have to do to enter the 'freestuff' page is join our mailing list by entering your email address when asked. We wont send any spam...just a monthly newsletter...(which we forget some months, so it's not even every month). Go on....you know you wanna...
- 22/5/07 New website design!
Yep, we got bored of the old one.... so here's a new improved and much groovier site for you to browse...
- 21/5/07 New PayPal SMS - Pay via your mobile
Paypal have now introduced a way of paying for products and services using your mobile instead of a credit card. This means people who wouldn't normally have access to paying for products online can get in on the action. We've added the link that takes you to the page to register your phone to our mail order page. This gives us more scope for selling directly from our site as opposed to 3rd party download sites. Keep an eye out for more download products and mail-order MP3 CDR singles inthe near future.
- 8/5/07 The New Town Centres and Sonic-Hub Records part company
It's been a fun couple of years working with The New Town Centres, but unfortunately we've parted company. We hope they continue to make fantastic, weird and wonderful music and find a suitable outlet for it.
We're still going to be selling their debut album, 'The Reason You're Alive', but there'll be no more new recordings from them on Sonic-Hub Records.
Good luck fellas.
- 1/5/07 WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK
As you may be aware, there is a bit of battle going on in the music industry to find the best and fairest way to sell music to the fans. CDs are still popular, but MP3s, WMAs and AACs are a lot more convienient and people like the ability to dump them straight into their ipods and MP3 players. The trouble is that a lot of these official download sites use something called DRM or Digital Rights Management which means you can only make a restricted number of copies (if any) and then you need to buy it again. We here at the label don't like DRM...we avoid it whenever we can which is why we like TuneTribe.com...no DRM on the MP3s there.
What we want to know from you is this: Where do you like to buy your downloaded music from?
Is it iTunes? TuneTribe? Napster? EMusic?... tell us where you would like to be able to bur our artist's music from and we'll see if we can make it happen.
Also, tell us where you would like to be able to get CDs from... your local music shop? Mail Order? Gigs? The more responses we get, the better the chance of us getting the music to you the way you want it.
We know a lot of peer to peer file sharing goes on... we know you swap tracks with mates... we use P2P sites sometimes to promote our music...it's fair enough... look on MySpace and we're often giving away downloads there too... but remember this: Without an income, the bands and the label can't make music anymore... just bear it in mind. IF you rip something off and you like it....buy a copy.
Thanks for you help.

Yep...day one and we sold out on Amazon in the USA. Don't miss out - get it on iTunes (USA STORE) or E-Music or wait a few days and more stock will find it's way onto Amazon. - 28/2/07 Deeks Rocks La Cigale in Paris!

So those in the know, know that we've been touring with Ms Wilde in Europe.... but nobody knew that our very own Deeks, aka Dan Peters was doing a 20 min DJ set as main support in Paris. Mixing his own remixes of the Sonic Hub material with some classic 80's tunes and a cappellas, Deeks had the whole venue jumping. We spent half and hour after the show outside signing CDs and enjoying the vibe...we even had a couple of fans turn up in home-made Sonic Hub T-shirts! We love it...
So we've rocked Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt(!) and Copenhagen.... next week we've got Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Braunschweiger and Luxemburg..closely followed by Kosice in Slovakia... and who knows where else after that....
Several new projects underway here too.... we'll keep you posted as things develop.
Bye for now.
Sean, Rick & Dan.
- 16/1/07 Sean meets author Nick Cook
Today, at a secret location in London (ok, not quite secret...but almost), Sean met the author of 'The Hunt For Zero Point', Nick Cook. The book inspired the song of the same name on SONIC HUB's debut album, 'The Eye Of The Storm'. When Sean sent a copy of the album to Nick after tracking him down on the internet, he recieved a call from the author saying how much he liked the song and how well it captured the essence of the book. For those that don't know, the track features vocals by the gorgeous Kim Wilde who breaks from her usual genre to sing the part in an opera style. This unique vocal combined with the dance influenced backing, littered with eerie samples and creepy soundscapes still manages to deliver an uplifting feeling..albeit with a dark edge.
For more information on how the song came into being and for more about the book itself, check out the '
Hunt For Zero Point' page.

- 11/1/07 New Chart Rules....
So, in case you didn't know, new chart rules in the UK mean that as of now, ANY song that is downloaded from a legit site like iTunes or TuneTribe.com counts as a sale for the charts. It used to be that a single could only be included in the charts if it had an official 'physical' release. (Online sales were allowed to start before the physical release date, but there HAD to be a physical release.) This means that anyone is now eligible for the charts... You'll probably start to see some old 'long gone' artists creeping into the singles charts again as their loyal fans download their old tunes 'en mass'. But, the most exciting bit is that this means we can get our releases into the charts without the expense of pressing singles...(always were a loss-leader anyway). So do the independent music scene a favour, support it by downloading your favourite MP3s from legit sites and spread the word...anyone can have a number one now... (but it'd be sweet if that 'anyone' was us...)
- 9/1/07 New Year - Let's get on with it...
Don't you just hate that the world get's put on hold over the Christmas holidays? Lots going on here at Sonic-Hub Records.
