Ever since we started making our own pop promo videos a few years ago, we've dreamed that one day we would branch out into making movies. The Music and Movie worlds are so intertwined these days it's almost daft not to. With the advent of digital video cameras and non-linear software based editing, the cost of making movies has plummeted in the same was as making albums has done. We love this levelling of the playing fields. In this day and age, the only difference between a well shot indie film and a Hollywood Blockbuster is the script...and with the bilge that makes it to the theatres these days, it's not inconcievable that we can make a truly original and credible movie on a very small budget that will compete... at least in terms of watchability.
So that's the plan then...make stunning, entertaining and thought provoking films without breaking the bank and get them out to the people by any means neccessary. We fully endorse and support the whole self distribution movement that is gaining momentum on the net at the moment. Too many distributors are taking way too much from the potential revenue and film makers rarely see any kind of profit once the distributors have recouped. SHOOT THE DJ is now in full production. We've completed a 3 week principal photography shoot in October 2007, a second week-long shoot in February 2008 and have more shoots planned right upto June 2008.
The edit has already started and the movie is coming along as planned. Being a small outfit, we can be flexible, so as we progress with the edit, we can shoot new scenes if we feel the story requires them.
